On my way home from work last night I pulled up behind a Prius at a stop sign that had the license plate...

Kinja'd!!!

Is it bad that my knee jerk reaction was something like this?...

Honestly, when the Prius came out, some people legitimately believed that it got 72mpg. It was infuriating.

Prius owners have, thankfully, turned from militant hypermilers preaching the Gospel of Toyota and condemning anyone who forgets to recycle their plastic bottle... into just really boring people who can't tell what a good car should be like, and think "well, I don't want to spend money, and gas costs money" and mumble their way into a Toyota dealership.

The latter are much easier to deal with than the former.

I saw a Prius with a racing stripe yesterday. I died a little inside.

I wonder what sort of gas mileage the Prius does get in mixed driving. I don't really care about the EPA ratings, I'd just like to hear from someone who owns one. The last I remember hearing, it wasn't really any better than you could get with a Jetta TDI. Surely there must have been improvements over the years?

No problem, you just need to park next to him with your 670 whp tag.

Does a racing stripe or decals on a Prius add mpg instead of horsepower?

lol. I don't think I'll ever want 670whp... unless the vehicle weighed over 5000lbs.
My golden number is ~300whp in a car that weighs <= 3000lbs.

That exactly how my step dad is. It gets around 42 mpg but every time I basically call it shit he gets all pissed. He thinks its good, its not.

He says it works and they're super anti diesel for some reason when you get the same milage. I've basically given up on that issue. I can't wait for the inevitable need for a new battery.

Hmm. Yep, I believe that's what my brother's tuned, manual trans Jetta TDI got back in 2005. Oh the Prius... I guess I just don't get it. Is there a lot of cargo room at least? I do like the sound it makes in reverse.

Cargo room is good and the seats are comfortable. About the only good thing about it. It was was rated at like 48 in 2007.
